We knew that the end of 2021 and most of 2022 would be a talent acquisition challenge. Fortunately at bbd, we love a challenge and seized the opportunity to get creative.

New clients, growing accounts and a changing landscape meant more roles were available across a lot of our departments. We wanted to run a ‘catch all’ bbd recruitment campaign which communicated who we are and why opportunities with us are worth exploring.

As always, there is pressure on any content a creative agency produces to be… well creative. We knew it would take time from the studio and experience has taught us this can often get trumped by ‘client demands’.

We also wanted to be honest and expressive in talking about who we are – creating the right culture and growing the bbd family is incredibly important to us and we believe the very essence of our success. We want to encourage passionate people to join our team, people who take pride in their work, are forward thinking and always driven to find solutions.

bbd does Halloween

So we decided to approach this recruitment drive a little differently.

Firstly, we wanted to use our skill of fast craft (team work, creative brainstorms and rough ideation).
And secondly, we realised that no one knows us better than the people who work here and (hopefully) love it, so why not ask them, the people in the centre of it all, to bring the bbd culture and opportunities to life?

We invited everyone to take part and were overwhelmed by the response.
With individuals and teams gathering, we gave ourselves a week (or two) to create some recruitment campaigns.

Here is a brief look at what we came up with:

  • bbd(c) – There’s a lot of ways bbd can be used acrostically – so why not explore some of the options? Through using different word combinations, we can give an insight into our wacky workplace culture.
  • Quotes – A lot can be said in a few words. Here, we rose to the challenge in how we can best show our dynamic culture with one short and simple quote.
  • Hidden message – For all the developers out there, this is a social post for them to show their talents. If you manage to decode the message, working as a dev for bbd might just be for you.
  • Anthropomorphic – At bbd, we are all made up from multiple characteristics and qualities. Using anthropomorphic images, we can present this combination of traits in a visual and creative way.
  • bbd bad people – Cards Against Humanity with a difference – what better way to express bbd’s unique
personality/humour, whilst providing an insight into who we are?
  • Slack me – All organisations have their own unique work culture, and bbd is no exception. Slack is our online banter/business platform and through presenting a ‘typical day on slack’, we can show our unique daily quizzes, event chats and positive client feedback. Who wouldn’t want to join that?
  • Dogs wanted – We have dogs in our office. Enough said.
  • Social native – At bbd, we all have our own personalities, and being our true selves at work is encouraged. A short, one-line description of the fabulous people who make us who we are shows the range of personalities we have here, and how wide and varied our workforce is.

There were many fantastic ideas that aren’t listed here – maybe you’ll see them in the not-so-distant future on our social media pages?

This recruitment brainstorm is only a snapshot into what life can be like at bbd, amongst team lunches, client pitches and after work drinks. At bbd, you’ll be working amongst great talent that inspires you, amazing clients that challenge you, and a great culture that will support you both professionally and personally. Grow and develop to become the best version of yourself with an agency that values you.

If you can see yourself as part of our team, we’d love to have a chat. Have a look at our jobs available and see if there’s something there for you. We look forward to hearing from you.
