My name’s Daisy and I’m here at Bright Blue Day for my three-month internship as a Junior Designer!
A few weeks ago, I handed in my Final Major Project, rounding off my third (and final!) year of Graphic Design at Arts University Bournemouth, the all-nighters haven’t caught up with me just yet...
From a very early age (yes, cliché incoming), I was always interested in being creative, whether it was learning piano at six years old or sneakily putting stickers on my bedroom wall in the middle of the night (sorry, Mum). I’ve always looked for ways to express myself.
I also owe a big thank you to my favourite game, LittleBigPlanet 2, for helping me discover not just my love for gaming, but also my obsession with all things quirky and creative.
Beyond graphic design, I have a massive love for music. From learning piano as a child, to playing in a band during secondary school, to going on a music tour in Belgium (and now being a bit of a GarageBand whizz) music has always been a big part of my life. I have also been to around 50 concerts which writing this maybe sounds crazy.
When I’m not designing, I’m probably writing my own songs… (Also, LittleBigPlanet has an amazing soundtrack, just saying.)
I first discovered graphic design in Year 9 at Highcliffe School. I loved it so much that I stuck with it through GCSEs, Sixth Form, and all the way through uni at AUB. During my time at university, I’ve definitely pushed myself in terms of my design style from learning animation and motion design for RSA, to carefully considered layouts for my ISTD submission. And alongside this, I’ve never let go of my love for hands-on, experimental design - ripping, layering and distorting type (in a controlled chaos kinda way).
After my second year at uni, I had the chance to do a two-week placement here at Bright Blue Day (my first experience in a creative office environment) and I loved every second of it. (Not just because they have dogs in the studio… definitely not...)So when I found out I’d been invited back for a three-month internship, I was over the moon!
I am writing this blog at the end of my first week here, and I can say I’m having an incredible time! Being creative is a huge part of my identity, and I’m incredibly grateful to be spending the next few months surrounded by likeminded, inspiring people. I can’t wait to get stuck in and most importantly, to make some great friends along the way :)
