Visa have been a sponsor of the FIFA World Cup for 11 years. Visa Europe wanted to use this sponsorship to promote Visa card usage in their markets. Since cardholders in Spain were among the fastest to adopt contactless payments, Visa’s target was to convert card users there into long-term adopters. bbd was tasked with creating a digital incentive promotion to encourage payments with Visa.

bbd has run over 50 promotions with Visa in a six-year period. This time, Spanish users would enter the promotion using their Visa card, with the chance to win tickets to the FIFA World Cup. Users simply had to snap a photo of their purchase receipt. bbd leveraged Google OCR technology for the first time (and subsequently extended it to three other markets).
